NEW MUSIC: The Bird and the Bee

Interpreting the Masters, Vol. 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall & John Oates

By The Bird and the Bee

Inara George and Greg Kurstin, otherwise known as The Bird and the Bee, are a dynamic duo of Batman-ic proportions. George's soft as silk vocals and Kurstin's multi-instrumental talents combine to form the most delectably danceable and infectious vintage pop you can buy with their most recent release. They put their unique sound up against the top hits of '80s radio favorites Hall & Oates. This album is a tribute through and through, George and Kurstin are not reinventing the wheel here. Each track is a nearly spot-on cover of its original but I assure you that is not a bad thing. The "interpretation" comes mostly from George whose voice gives these songs new life. If you missed out on Hall & Oates the first time around, this album is a great way to get to know their catalog. Review by Allison West.
